Management Approach

As a national oil company, PTT understands the importance of and is fully committed to the mission to ensure energy security while also driving society forward through organizational mechanisms at the policy and operational levels, covering the dimensions of human capital development, social and community development (People). This dimension focuses on improving individual’s competency as well as environmental protection and rehabilitation. On the other hand, ‘Planet’ concentrates of preserving and restoring the environment and natural resources, in parallel with building awareness about natural resource and ecological reservation. All of this implemented for the long-term sustainable development of the Thai society. PTT has established the social and community investment strategy in correspondence with the organization’s business strategy, its organizational budget, and the community’s needs. PTT approaches community engagement through social relations in order to understand the differing context and specific needs of each community. Employees are encouraged to participate in volunteer projects for public benefit through PTT’s Thai Energy for Public Mind Club and various other community development and environmental activities, which will enable employees to adopt and reflect PTT’s values of corporate citizenship and civic-mindedness.

Inorder for sustainable investment in society and the environment, PTT has improved and adjusted the appropriateness of its operational measures. Through the consideration of both internal and external factors. Including PTT’s strategy to ensure Sustainable Growth, Sustainable Development Goals, the 12th National Economic and Social Development Plan, climate change, deterioration of natural resources and the environment, inequality in society issues in accessing energy in addition to community’s needs towards PTT. The Sufficiency Economy philosophy was one of the main philosophy used to adjust the operational frameworks. While also using targets from the United Nations SDGs as guidelines to support the community in various dimensions. As the appropriateness and context differs depending on the location. PTT is committed to ensure that communities have an active role at all stages in setting the directions collaboratively through the engagement process.

Nonetheless, to ensure that community support operates with high standards, PTT established measures regarding Community Relations. These are the fundamental measures for PTT to understand the different expectations and concerns of communities, affected either directly or indirectly by PTT business operations. Community Relations operation consists of 6 steps as follows:

 

  1. Community Identification: identify communities and consider the impact level and the influence communities may have on PTT’s business operations/activities
  2. Community Prioritization: prioritize the communities, who have influence on PTT’s business operations/activities and define the engagement level and methodology based on the results from community prioritization process, comprises level of interests and influence towards business operations/activities
  3. Community Prioritization: prioritize the communities, who have influence on PTT’s business operations/activities and define the engagement level and methodology based on the results from community prioritization process
  4. Community Engagement: engage with the communities in the most effective way focusing on the impacts to communities and the objectives of the projects/activities
  5. Performance Consolidation and Analysis: consolidate the performance of community development projects, and analyze the performance in order to monitor the progress of the projects as agreed with the communities
  6. Continuous Improvement and Monitoring: develop a collaboration with relevant functions in order to improve the efficiency of community development projects and assess the performance of the projects
