In the past, Thailand was heavily dependent on the imports of refined oil products as demand outstripped local refining capacity.
As the national oil company, PTT played an important role in ensure supply sufficiency of finished petroleum products through the imports.
But rising domestic demand called upon the establishment of additional refining capacity with PTT assuming a leading part in such endeavour.
Today, five of the country's six refineries with a combined refining capacity of over 900,000 barrels per day belong to PTT Group.
The development of additional refining capacity did not only fulfill the domestic need for refined oil products but leaving some surplus for export.
That scenario transformed Thailand into an exporter of refined oil products in this region. PTIT's Oil Product Trading unit has worked with the local refining industry to move the excessive supplies overseas.
At the time of maintenance shutdown of local oil refineries, PTT has the duty to secure sufficient supplies from foreign sources to substitute the shortfall. Aside from performing the importation and exportation of refined oil products, PTTIT's Oil Product Trading unit has branched out into trading of oil products in the international market. This additional role is consistent with PTT's aspiration to become a world-class player in the world's energy industry. |

Light distillates include gasoline with 91 and 95 octane numbers |

Middle distillates cover kerosene, diesel fuel and aviation fuel |

Heavy distillates such as fuel oil and bitumen |

Special Products like lubricating base oil, LPG as well as semi-finished products including reformate and vacuum gasoil. |

PTT conducts its business fairly with transparency and integrity with a view to meet expectation from its customers and bringing about benefits to the organization and the country as a whole.
The Unit has constantly been monitoring the world's oil market and all crucial factors impacting prices, demand and supplies, in order to come up with an effective strategy for price risk management. In 2007, the Unit dealt with 38 million barrels of refined oil products, breaking down into 1.12 million barrels imported for PTT's refineries, 3.40 million barrels imported for PTT's own internal system, 15 million barrels were for exports and 17.4 million barrels being exported under international trading activities. |
