The One-Million Rai Reforestation Project In Honor Of The King
Our mission of “Reforestation by heart and plant a heart of forest lover” commenced in 1997. During that time, the government had a policy to respond to the initiative of Her Majesty the Queen who graciously expressed concerns on her suffering subjects due to water shortage. The reforestation project to honor His Majesty the King on the auspicious occasion of 50th year accession to the throne was thus established. It aims to revive the deteriorated forest in the Forest Conservation Area, where is the watershed of the country, covering an area of five million rai. Of the total area, PTT volunteered to plant an area of one million rai to bestow upon H.M.the King on this auspicious occasion.
What once said “Reforestation gives more than forest” gives a clear proof to all Thai. Proud with the achievement, PTT has bestowed upon the forested area to H.M. the King on 16 November 2005. PTT and all Thai people were delighted with the outcome as they witnessed the return of forest in which everyone found the interdependence among people, water and forest, becoming strong community network.
Up until present, PTT still continues its reforestation mission. There are two main projects to be achieved. For a long term maintenance, PTT sets up PTT Developing Village (10 villages) as well as other three main activities to ensure the survival of the forest. These include the training program of “PTT Youth to conserve forest”, “Forest Wildfire Volunteer” and “People Volunteer for Forest Protection” or normally known in Thai abbreviation as “Ror Sor Tor Por”. With an aim to best ensure the survival of the forest, PTT has specifically created continuous projects to create “forest lovers” and strong tie between community and forest as well as improve the community’s well-being. Hence, it has launched the “Green Globe Award”and built the “Sirinath Rajini Center for Mangrove Forest Studies” and the project to honor H.M. the King on the auspicious year of 80th Birthday Anniversary “84 Tambons On A Sufficient Path Project, to build a strong and sustainable community.
