Sirinath Rajini Center For Mangrove Forest Stidies
Follow The Initiative And Honoring Her Majesty The Queen

Following the initiative and honoring Her Majesty the Queen

In the year 2004, the auspicious year of Her Majesty the Queen 72nd Birthday Anniversary, PTT organized the project to honor H.M. the Queen. We constructed”Sirinath Rajini Center” as a center to help rehabilitate mangrove ecosystem. The center is planned to be a place for learning, conserving as well as providing a nursery ground for marine aquaculture to return richness to mangrove forest and enable people to co-live with the forest. The Center is located in the area of FPT 29, Pak Nam Pran Subdistrict, Amphur Pranburi, Prachuab Kirikhan Province where PTT and Thai people bestowed one million rai of reforestation project in honor of His Majesty the King in 2002.

Sirinath Rajini Center is the study center of mangrove forest for the public, communities and youth. The center serves as a site that allows appreciation of the forest as well as enhancement of knowledge on local ecology. Furthermore, it serves as a nursery ground for aquaculture larvae such as crab, shrimp and shell. There, is a location of food center for interdependence among human, forest and animal.

Royal speech of H.M. the Queen Forest planted, the treasure on the coast

His Majesty the King always taught me that the mangrove forest needs special care because it is a nursery ground for a large variety of baby fish and lavae. When they are still young, they are not able to feed themselves and survive.  When they grow to be big fish, shrimp and crab, they then become food for human. Without mangrove forest, all species will be extinct. The forest is thus considered aquaculture nursery. From the lesson of his majesty, I am determined to conserving mangrove forest.

Sirinath Rajini Center consists of:

  1. Visitor Service Zone
  2. Natural Trail Route Zone: royal residence and trail
  3. Education Zone
Research Center is the area is designed to demonstrate the physical structure and ecology of both plants and animals similar to that of mangrove forest.
Demonstration and experiment Center is the deserted shrimp farm or small forest area which is improved and allowed for water flow similar to the natural state of mangrove forest. Also, there is a system to trap water inside for an experiment.
Charcoal burning center according to royal initiative
    Young Plant nursery
  4. Connect Area Zone is a connecting area of Pranburi River and Pranburi National Park and FPT 29 and FPT 29/3 which allows visit of tourists. The area consists of:
4.1 A dock for receiving tourists traveling by boat from Pranburi National Park and from Pranburi River
4.2 Green Shutter transporting the tourists from and to the dock and Sirinath Rajini Center. The shutter is fueled by NGV and electricity.
  5. Communal Zone is covering the most part of FPT29 and FPT 29/3. The area is kept to its natural state so that the communities can make a living from making use of both directly and indirectly from the forest. This area is restricted and not open to visitors.

Reforested area...the treasure along the coast

With respect to reforested mangrove forest which take places and grows, several questions and concerns follows. Some people doubt if they are as fertile as natural forest. To answer this, it is suggested to review a number of its role and value of the forest. Mangrove forest is like a wood bank that can increase forest woods to be used as charcoal and construction material. It gives clean air as it cleans the air, reduces carbon dioxide and increases oxygen in the air so that the air of sea coast is clean and fresh. The mangrove plays a vital role in ecology balance equilibrium so it is considered as a treasure of the coast, a home and nursery ground for aquaculture species where they reproduce. That is why we can call it a green castle for marine species. The result of reforestation and revival of mangrove forest is a biodiversity and richness of the mangrove forest which signifies the return of forest. The forest is an essential source of food supply, a kitchen of plentiful food for a number of animals. As the communities living on the coast and nearby areas can make use of mangrove forest, the reforested area proves to be as fertile as natural forest.

PTT has commissioned the research team led by Professor Dr. Sanit Aksornkeaw to conduct a research on FPT29 and FPT 29/3. The first phase of the research in June 2004 shows the result in the full report of “Pranburi mangrove forest…supports the living on the coast. In the second phase from January to March 2005, the study is to compare the state of mangrove forest in two seasons. The result is illustrated in the report of Revival of the forest…Sirinath Rajini Center.
