  • The pace at which new coronavirus cases are being added in China began to slow down on Sunday, and a Chinese health official said that intense efforts to stop its spread are beginning to work. China’s National Health Commission reported 2,009 new cases on Sunday, which was down from 2,641 the previous day. 142 new deaths occurred, which was just one lower than the 143 on the previous day.
  • The case for Russia to join the new output cuts being proposed by OPEC and other major oil producers is strengthening, due to an upcoming supply glut within Russia as well as the likelihood of a stronger rouble, Reuters reported on Friday citing several industry sources. Officially, the Kremlin has said that no decision has yet been taken regarding the recommendation by OPEC to extend as well as deepen output cuts in response to the impact of the coronavirus in China.
  • Energy firms added oil rigs in the U.S. last week for a 2nd consecutive week, according to energy services firm Baker Hughes on Friday. During the week ended February 14, two oil rigs were added to bring the total U.S. oil rig count to 678.
