An OPEC+ Joint Technical Committee extended its meeting into a third day on Wednesday and the meeting is set to continue on Thursday. A news report quoted a source as saying that Russia prefers an extension to the current product pact and not a deeper cut in production. "If there is only an extension (to current cuts), then we will meet in March as agreed before," one of the OPEC sources was reportedly to have said.
- During the week to January 31, commercial inventories in the U.S. built up by 3.4 mil bbls, in contrast to expectations for an increase of 2.8 mil-bbls. Crude stockpiles at the Cushing, Oklahoma, hub rose by 1.1 mil bbls.
