  • The pace of new coronavirus infections in the Chinese province of Hubei fell for a 2nd straight day on Tuesday, but the World Health Organisation (WHO) cautioned that there is not yet enough data to know for sure whether the epidemic has slowed. On Tuesday, Hubei reported 1,693 new cases of infection, which was down from 1,807 the previous day and the lowest number in the province since February 11. However, the death toll – which is interpreted as a lagging indicator – rose to 132, from 93 the previous day. The latest figures bring the total number of cases in China to over 74,000, with about 2,000 fatalities. Outside China, there have so far been 5 deaths and about 827 cases of infection, with over half of those infections concentrated on a cruise ship quarantined at a Japanese port.

The Libyan National Army (LNA), which is led by Khalifa Haftar, has been trying to seize the capital Tripoli by force. The LNA on Tuesday shelled Tripoli’s port, which is a major gateway for food, fuel, wheat and other imports for the capital.
