PTT Group Supports Equality through a Smile of Veteran Baristas at Café Amazon for Chance

   PTT Group led by PTT Public Company Limited (PTT), PTT Exploration and Production Co., Ltd., PTT Oil and Retail Public Company Limited (OR) and Sarn Palung Social Enterprise Co., Ltd. (SPSE) together with Royal Thai Marine Corps, The Royal Thai Navy led by Admiral Luechai Ruddit, Commander of the Royal Thai Navy opened Café Amazon for Chance at Marine Corps Branch, Toei Ngam Beach Sattahip District, Chonburi province. This is the first branch served by veterans injured in battle and their families who work as barista. The cafe offers opportunities as it creates a stable job and income to improve quality of life and promotes equality for the underprivileged in the society. The program is carried out by SPSE established by PTT and 6 flagship companies to undertake social enterprises of PTT Group. 

     Mr. Kris Imsang, PTT's Chief Operating Officer of the Petroleum Business Group said SPSE has developed café Amazon for Chance by adopting the successful business model of OR's Café Amazon coffee shop which has more than 3,000 branches at home and overseas. As it is designed as a social business for the underprivileged, the profit will be used to expand more branches for the underprivileged. In addition, part of the profit from this branch will help support turtle nursery and treatment of injured sea turtles at the sea turtle conservation centers. The project sponsor, PTTEP is renovating the building and supplying medical equipment to treat and operate sea turtles at Sea Turtle Hospital located at the Royal Thai Navy Sea Turtle Conservation Center. 

     Now, there are nine Café Amazon for Chance for the underprivileged with 33 workers: 23 people with hearing impairments; two people with learning disabilities; five elderly people and three disabled veterans and their families. By the end of 2020, we aim to increase to 12 cafes to provide them with the opportunity to have a stable job and income, and better quality of life. More importantly, they will also gain knowledge and skills of barista and beverage sales business according to Café Amazon standardAfter they have completed training for over a month, they will be ready to perform all roles at the store and able to continue on their own in the future.
