PTT Continuously Develops Energy Innovation to Increase People's Choice to Fight PM 2.5 for Fresh Air

23 January 2020

As the air pollution crisis of PM 2.5 in Thailand persists, PTT Group is committed to continuously improving fuel and clean energy. It aims to reduce environmental impact throughout the business chain, promote awareness of natural resource conservation and care for employees health by implementing Work@Home measure.

Mr. Wittawat Savasti-xuto, Chief Technology and Engineering Officer of PTT disclosed that PTT Group is committed to continuously improving the quality of its products and business processes in order to carry out its mission of creating energy security along with community, social and environmental care. PTT, by PTT Innovation Institute has been conducting research and development of fuel products especially high-speed diesels with biodiesel content for more than 20 years. Made from pure palm oil, biodiesel is a clean fuel with low sulfur, high cetane number and oxygen content that helps complete combustion. According to laboratory tests, Euro 4 engine trucks using B10 can help reduce PM2.5 by 3.5 percent compared to B7. The Institute has also collaborated with the relevant sectors to test B10 and B20 to assure the quality for the real use. To improve diesel quality, the refineries have been upgraded and improved to accommodate the demand of fuels meeting Euro Emission standards for high quality, more environmentally friendly products in the future.

In addition to developing alternative fuel products, PTT Group has specified the production and operational process that reduce potential environmental impacts, such as the guideline of contractors' vehicles in the project, the increase in the amount of transportation per trip, inspections and maintenance of engine and operation. To ensure good health for the staff, PTT daily monitors the situation to update the employees via SMS. N95 masks are offered to prevent effect on their health. In addition, it allows employee living in affected areas e.g. Pathum Thani, Chonburi, Kanchanaburi, Nakhon Ratchasima, Saraburi, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya and Bangkok to work from home to avoid pollution and help alleviate PM 2.5 pollution in the area around the premises.

In the campaign to raise awareness and raise awareness of environmental conservation, PTT has applied its own knowledge of forest planting as a model for increasing green space in the city as well as encouraging people to participate in creating green spaces. We are ready to cooperate with Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and its network partners under the "Green Bangkok 2030 Project".

PTT is committed to developing innovation along with environmental stewardship as it embraces the balanced management of three areas of sustainability. These include business conduct while taking care of the community and society (People), conservation and preservation of natural resources and the environment (Planet) and a foundation of economic and social security to grow strongly and sustainably (Prosperity).
