In the early establishment's period of Petroleum Authority of Thailand (PTT), the symbol used to represent the organization was simply the three abbreviated letter of its name "PTT" or "ปตท." (as pronounced : "Por-Tor-Tor" in Thai). Subsequently, Dr.Tongchat Hongladaromp, the first PTT Governor, assigned PTT's Art Work team, Public Relations Department, to invent the first PTT logo with a distinctive, business-look graphic design that signified PTT business essence and values.
In mid 1980, around 30-40 pieces of PTT logo's prototype were thus created by Mr. Rayong Yimsa-Ard, a member of PTT's Art Work team, for being taken into Dr.Tongchat's consideration. The governor had assisted the team in the process of commenting and modifying various logo designs until the best one was selected. In 1981, during the PTT Chairmanship's term of General Prem Tinsulanonda, PTT logo was registered as the trademark with the Ministry of Commerce, and it has been used as the PTT official logo ever since.
