PTT InI's Scope of Operation

Structure of PTT Innovation Institute

Research & Innovation Planning and Management Department

The department serves as the key managing unit for the institute's research endeavors by mapping out short-term and long-term action plans in addition to controlling and monitoring research for maximum efficiency for PTT Group's development of products and processes to promptly meet customers' needs. It also engages in knowledge management and evolution of researchers' capability, serving as the management center for academic and technological knowledge, intellectual property, benefits, and PTT's research patents for optimal benefits. Managing commercial technology and driving extended application of research to reach the market, the department assesses the benefits of research projects and forges research networks with worldwide academic, public, and private agencies.

Petroleum Products and Alternative Fuels Technology Research Department

The department conducts R&D of fuel products, automotive and industrial lubricants, asphalt, and alternative energy and biochemical technological processes, housing a sophisticated leading research laboratory in Thailand of TIS 17025 (ISO/IEC 17025) certification. It strives for the pursuit, research, and development of premium products suiting sophisticated technologies, including biofuels and biochemicals, to meet customers' needs and be green.

Energy Application and Automotive Research Department

The department focuses on technological R&D spanning automotive engines, vehicles, combustion, and emissions; efficient energy consumption; energy-saving technique development; and selection of applied energy technologies. It also administers laboratory operation, test apparatus, and test engines in pursuit of international standards to support PTT products' premium quality, reasonable costs, and environmental friendliness with Thailand's international-standard, most complete test machinery. In addition, it has developed testing apparatus in support of internal research while comprehensively accommodating the mission of R&D and testing for PTT Group.

Petroleum and Petrochemical Process Technology Research Department (PPPTRD)

The department's emphasis is on enhancing PTT Group's business caliber of gas separation plants, production platforms, oil refineries, and petrochemical plants by conducting research on production process technologies ranging from reaction catalysts, adsorbents, and absorbed substances; process simulation modeling and development; to polymer and plastics R&D for greater efficiency, added value, and production cost reduction for complexes under PTT Group.

Petroleum Production and Transportation Technology Research Department

Focusing on natural gas transmission R&D, the department supports PTT's gas and petroleum businesses as well as infrastructural businesses—all of which form PTT's core businesses. These businesses call for high technology and knowledge, necessitating sophisticated tools and competent personnel of Thailand's highest level to support PTT Group's business competitiveness worldwide.

Its R&D emphasis is on material technology, specialty chemicals, and metering apparatus for improved output efficiency and capacity of petroleum and natural gas; longer service life; reduced corrosion problems in processes, plants, and transmission pipelines. The department houses R&D capability for anti-corrosion and enhanced petroleum productivity for PTT's petroleum and gas exploration, production, and transport.

Environmental Technology Research Department

The department's mission is to investigate and conduct R&D as well as developing technologies that are green innovations and intellectual property, including inventions, processes, and products designed to prevent, treat, restore, and ease impacts (air, water, soil, and waste) resulting from PTT Group's spectrum of business operations. That way, PTT Group strikes a balance in economic, social, community, and environmental aspects, ultimately leading to sustainable development.
